Buddy Up for Life – Naperville Programs offers Buddy Up Tennis, Buddy Up Fitness, Buddy Up Cardio Dance, Kickboxing, and a Fitness class for individuals with Down syndrome. Buddy Up Tennis is a 90-minute clinic consisting of 60 minutes of professional tennis instruction and 30 minutes of fitness conditioning for Athletes ages 5 and over, and each Athlete is partnered with a volunteer Buddy. Buddies for Buddy Up Tennis are required to be at least 14 years old, enthusiastic, energetic, and ready to have fun, and no tennis experience is required for Buddies. Buddy Up Fitness is for Athletes ages 12 and over and combines activities that increase heart rate and strengthen muscle mass with an emphasis on core conditioning, with each Athlete paired with a Volunteer Buddy to help with proper form and to track progress. Ongoing weekly, engaging and interactive Cardio Dance, Kickboxing, and Fitness class options are specially designed for individuals with Down syndrome ages 10 and over to increase heart rate and confidence with a maximum of fun. Buddy Up Summer Camp is a week-long experience for Athletes ages 10 and over that includes athletic, STEM, and therapeutic programming, and the Life Skills program is a skills-based training program for individuals with Down syndrome ages 14 and over. For each program, an Athlete or Student is paired with a formally trained Buddy on a 1:1 ratio, and there is also a weekly Connections program that offers Athletes and Buddies a chance to meet one-on-one and develop friendships that extend into their everyday lives.
