About

The Dancenter offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, baton, hip hop, lyrical, tumbling, contemporary, musical theater, and pointe. The program offers complete training for the recreational to competitive student in a fun environment. Students have a wide variety of classes to choose from to give them a complete dance experience. The Dancenter has a Performance Company and a Competition team.

Miss Anita is the Artistic Director, owner and instructor, and she is celebrating her 50th year teaching. She took private tap with Marjorie Sellers in Zanesville, Ohio, and also studied ballet, jazz and baton, and attended intensives and seminars to further her education. Miss Becky is the assistant Artistic Director and an instructor; she attended Lincoln Christian University and received a degree in Early Childhood. She has taught for studios in Ottawa and Bloomington, given master classes in Chicago and Springfield, worked with many local high school and college dance teams, choreographed for Engle Lane and Vermillion Players, and taught for many special events in the area. She works for the Illinois Valley Brain Injury Clubhouse and taught hip hop classes in the Dominican Republic.

Miss Shannon is an instructor who began dancing at the Streator Dancenter at age 4 and took classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical and tumbling over 14 years. She was an assistant teacher for 4 years, a member of the Dancenter Performance Company for 6 years, and on the Dancenter Competition team for 2 years. She attended Eastern Illinois University, was a member of EIU dancers, and choreographed jazz, hip hop, lyrical and tap dances for their showcases. She has choreographed for Engle Lane Theater and Vermillion Players and works at the Streator Family YMCA.

Miss Abbey is an instructor who started dancing at age 3 and started at the Pontiac Dancenter at age 8. She has trained in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, musical theater and pointe. She was a member of the Dancenter Performance Company and competition team for 6 years. She attended Illinois State University to major in middle level education and was a member of the Illinois State competitive Dance Team, which attended NDA Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL and placed in the top 10 in 2018.

Miss Anya is an instructor who started dancing at the Dancenter at age 10, taking jazz, tap, musical theater, hip hop, and lyrical. She participated in company for a couple of years and competition for 5 years and danced in 2 shows with Vermillion Players. She attended community college for a year, completed a trade school certification for cosmetology, assisted with dance classes in Springfield, and completed a 3‑month dance certificate program in Los Angeles.

Miss Lindsay is an instructor and a Bloomington Normal native who regularly attended dance at several studios in the Central Illinois area, including competition team and serving as a class assistant. She continued her dance education as a Dance Minor at Millikin University and participated in their fine arts and theater programs and the university dance team. She works as a professional photographer and volunteers with her church’s youth group.

Miss Hailey is an instructor who has been dancing at the Dancenter since age 4 and has taken tap, jazz, musical theater, hip hop, ballet, lyrical, contemporary and pointe. She was on the company team and started on the competition team at about age 9 and is currently still dancing with the team. She graduated high school early in January 2023 and was a student teacher with younger kids during high school.

Some former students of The Dancenter have danced with the San Francisco Ballet, some are professors at Illinois State University, some have danced at various theme parks, and many former students are currently teaching at dance studios all over the country.
