About
Heavenly Horses Camps and Vacation Bible School includes daily horse care such as feeding, grooming, grazing, and equine first aid, along with horseback riding lessons, trail rides, fun mounted games, and horse shows. Campers take part in crafts, team-building games, fellowship, and a summer camp horse show that includes ribbons, with families encouraged to stay for the Friday show. The program also includes daily Bible stories, worship, prayer, and a Christmas camp, and placements for horse camp are determined by Heavenly Horses staff and grouped by strengths and skills, with beginner, intermediate, and advanced riding levels described and accommodated.
• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: Vacation Bible School runs 4 days, and each Horse Camp week runs 5 days.
• Price: Vacation Bible School cost: $80. Horse Camp cost: $525.00 per week for non-Heavenly Horses students and $425 per week for current Heavenly Horses students.
Heavenly Horses Camps and Vacation Bible School is part of Heavenly Horses, which was established in 2008 and has grown to a herd of over 26 lesson horses, serving over 100 students on a weekly basis. The program follows a Christ-centered, comprehensive, hands-on, faith-based approach to horsemanship and is managed through a joy-filled volunteer program in which students and their families have the opportunity to participate in many aspects of a working barn. The primary goal of Heavenly Horses is to introduce and instruct adults and children ages 5 and up in horsemanship while reinforcing good character traits, with the belief that interacting with and understanding horses leads to a better understanding of oneself and to self improvement in confidence, responsibility, and discipline. The Heavenly Horses family gathers for shows, holidays, prayer, and more, and the program is described as like nothing you will find in Northern Illinois. Owner Sharon Casares opened Heavenly Horses in 2008 and has been teaching horseback riding lessons for over 40 years, with over 40 years of experience in owning, instructing, teaching, showing, and training.
For Vacation Bible School, shorts and tennis shoes are okay, and closed toe shoes are required, with no sandals, jeans, or boots required. For full day camp, participants are asked to bring two water bottles, a snack, lunch (with refrigerators available), a helmet if they have one (with several sizes of schooling helmets available for use), appropriate clothing and a change of clothes based on outdoor conditions, sun block, and bug spray. For riding, campers are asked to wear jeans and boots, with hiking, cowboy, or riding boots all acceptable, and to come dressed to ride.
