Previously the Camp Grant artillery range, the Outdoor Recreation and Education program at Atwood Park has been operating since 1957 and has provided experiences to more than 400,000 participants. The program is part of a site that marked the 100-year anniversary in 2017 of the first soldiers arriving for training at Camp Grant during World War I. Atwood Park is home to the Rockford Park District’s award winning Birds of Prey facility, which is featured in the Birds of Prey Show and birds of prey feeding. Since its opening in 1957, the Outdoor Recreation and Education program has served participants from Rockford and surrounding areas.
