• Schedule: Group exercise classes and youth programs include a variety of activity options; some activities, such as YMCA swim lessons, are taught year-round.
The Stateline Family YMCA states that its mission is “to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all,” and that it is a nonprofit organization whose mission is healthy spirit, mind and body for all. It describes itself and the broader Y as the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by empowering young people, improving the health and well-being of people of all ages and inspiring action in and across communities, with three areas of focus: youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y lists its core values as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, and states that it is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life working side-by-side to strengthen communities.
Child care programs are staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of kids, and the need children have to feel connected and supported in trying new things. Afterschool programs focus on health, social growth and academic enhancement and serve kindergartners through grade schoolers with a variety of programmatic and activity options. YMCA swim lessons are described as progressive, taught year-round, encourage life-long learning and help children be comfortable in and around water. In gymnastics, participants focus on technique and learning new skills on floor, vault, uneven bars and balance beam, and youth sports participants build skills, learn about teamwork and focus on sportsmanship. Families are offered volunteer opportunities as coaches, team parents, and committee members, and group exercise is described as a great way to meet people, boost motivation and add variety to a fitness regimen, with all fitness levels welcome.
Summer programs are described as nurturing and celebrating the social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development of all youth, where children and teens build positive character values, develop new skills, and make new friends while participating in a fun and healthy atmosphere. The Stateline Family YMCA is recognized as one of the leading community organizations in its area by directly engaging children, adults and families from all segments of its communities in achieving healthier lifestyles, and as a result it inspires philanthropic support, engages more volunteers, develops staff and strengthens collaborations within the community. The Y states that everyone, regardless of age, income, cultural background, sexual or gender identification, or race has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive, and that to be truly “for all,” it needs to lead with equity and work with local and global partners to identify and remove barriers that have prevented some community members from thriving. It describes its diversity, inclusion, and equity practices as fostering a high-performing learning environment in which staff and volunteers are engaged and valued, and encouraged to collaborate, generate ideas, and contribute at the highest level, and notes that today the Y engages more than 10,000 neighborhoods across the U.S.
