About

Kidzeum Camps and After-School STEAM Programs include hands-on activities such as field science at Southwind Park, science investigations, engineering challenges, and creative problem solving. Campers investigate living pollinator gardens, a pond ecosystem, and natural habitats while collecting data, running experiments, and engineering solutions to conservation challenges. Additional activities include fermentation experiments in the Bio Blast Lab, working with microbes, data analysis and measurement, exploring Route 66 history and culture through interactive experiences, and themed classes such as Potions, Charms, Herbology, and Astronomy that use hands-on chemistry, physics, botany, and space science experiments.

• Ages: 5–10 years old
• Schedule: Kidzeum STEAM Camp 2026 is described as a full-day camp.
• Price: Members receive a 10% membership discount on summer camp registrations; using code SIBLING at checkout provides 10% off when purchasing two of the same summer camp registrations.

Kidzeum Camps and After-School STEAM Programs are led by certified STEAM educators. The After-School STEAM Program dedicates each day of the week to a different area of STEAM, with activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Specific camps and programs include Eco Explorers, Bio Blast Lab in partnership with the Illinois Fermentation and Biomanufacturing Hub, Thinkin' About Tomorrow focused on energy, water, waste, and sustainable building, Happy 250th Birthday, America! using resources from the Smithsonian Institution, National Park Service, and America250, 3-Dreaming with the full engineering design process and a custom 3D printed creation to take home, The Great Outdoors, Indoors with camping and survival skills, and Magic for Muggles, which frames real science as if Hogwarts were a science lab. Activities across these camps include measuring growth patterns, analyzing collected data, modeling solutions, measuring environmental impact, making art from reused materials, calculating and comparing the impact of sustainable choices, exploring historical inventions and 250 years of communication and transportation technology, and designing and testing structural models inspired by American history.

Additional hands-on components include timeline analysis, sketching as part of the engineering design process, digital modeling, prototyping, testing and refining prototypes, using real design software, exploring the science of materials, 3D printing, and practicing precise measurement and spatial reasoning in modeling. The Great Outdoors, Indoors includes camping skills, survival strategies, wildlife science, navigation, building structures, reading maps, investigating plants and animals, solving outdoor problems indoors, tent and shelter building, calculating distances, designing structures, and solving measurement problems. Magic for Muggles includes creative design challenges inspired by its themed classes and imaginative design projects with a magic aesthetic, using tools and technology behind scientific discovery. Kidzeum exhibits and educational content are planned to be appropriate for children ten and younger, and Kidzeum focuses on creating experiences of learning and discovery through play for children of all abilities and backgrounds.

Kidzeum states a mission of envisioning the community as an educational ecosystem that nurtures the promise budding in every child, reaching for a future where learning is play and social-emotional health is the soil in which children’s minds grow, and placing Kidzeum at the center of a community-based, whole-child approach that leads educational adventures and inspires children to stay curious as adults. Kidzeum notes a history reflected in the statement “Copyright ©2011–2026 Kidzeum.” Community involvement includes a partnership with the Illinois Fermentation and Biomanufacturing Hub for Bio Blast Lab, sponsorship of Thinkin' About Tomorrow by Highlander Renewables, sponsorship of Happy 250th Birthday, America! by B&B Electric, and partnerships for Happy 250th Birthday, America! with the Smithsonian Institution, National Park Service, and America250. Kidzeum also notes partnerships with other local programs through its Calendar/Programs and states that its website is provided through the generosity of HSHS Medical Group.
