About

21st Century Schools offers a structured childcare program that includes academics, homework help, reading, tutorial services, and technology education programs, along with youth development activities and life skills education. Children take part in games and activities, crafts, art, outdoor play, physical fitness, recreation and cultural activities, and service learning. The program also includes breakfast and snack during the school year and provides positive adult mentors and parental involvement.

• Ages: 6–11 years old
• Schedule: Before and after school on days when school is in session, with morning hours from 6:30 a.m. until the start of school and afternoon hours from school dismissal until 6 p.m.; full-day programming may be offered on some days when school is closed; summer camp runs Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Price: Morning service fees are $10.00 per day per child and afternoon service fees are $15.00 per day per child.

Each program is run as a partnership between the Tazewell County Health Department, the individual school, and the school district. 21st Century Schools states that its mission, in partnership with home and community, is for all students to obtain the necessary knowledge, skills, and self-motivation to become life-long learners, socially responsible citizens, and active participants in the ever-changing world. The programs are funded in part by the Illinois Department of Human Services: Teen REACH and the Illinois State Board of Education: 21st Century Community Learning Centers, and financial assistance for qualifying participants is available through the Illinois Department of Human Services' local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency, SAL Child Care Connection. Summer camp for students exiting kindergarten through 6th grade is designed to incorporate academics and fun, includes weekly themed activities, and provides breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Program payments must be made by cash, check payable to the Tazewell County Health Department, or online through All Paid using code 4299, and TCHD adheres to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
