Community Art Engagement Workshops
College of Lake County Lakeshore Campus, 34 N Sheridan Rd, Waukegan, IL 60085
About
Community Art Engagement Workshops offers arts and crafts and visual arts activities through community art workshops. Participants create artwork that can be included in small, rotating art exhibits at the Lakeshore Campus. Free art kits are distributed at each workshop.
• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Price: free community art workshops
Sessions are led by artist and CLC employee Katrina Davis-Salazar, along with student workers, and community artists and other CLC instructors also may lead events. Workshops are open to all ages, and participants under 14 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Preregistration is required, and seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The workshops emphasize creativity, process and expression over perfection, and participants are invited to participate in a culminating exhibit and to showcase their art in small, rotating art exhibits. The workshops are part of an arts-integrated community outreach program organized by CLC's Communication Arts, Humanities and Fine Arts Division, and participants are encouraged to connect with CLC and Waukegan's art community through art, social media and hashtags, including following the program on Instagram @CLCArts. The mission of the workshops is to provide quality art programming, instructors and supplies for the community and CLC students; highlight Waukegan as an arts center and provide opportunities for artists in Waukegan and beyond; emphasize the importance of making art; connect the community with CLC through art programming and to demonstrate CLC’s commitment to Waukegan and Lake County; introduce youth to the idea that a career and education in the arts is possible; and inspire connections between artists, students, community members and instructors.
