About

Camp Livingston is a Jewish residential youth camp that offers a summer experience for Jewish children and young adults. The camp’s facility includes 22 renovated cabins, modern bathhouses, updated buildings, athletic fields, and a private lake for campers and staff to use. Camp Livingston lives by six core values: Kehillah (Community), Hachlala (Inclusion), Kavod (Respect), Zechut Yehudit (Jewish Identity), Manhigut (Leadership), and Yichut Atsmo (Personal Growth).

• Ages: 7–18 years old

Camp Livingston was started in 1920 on 18 acres in Indian Hill, Ohio on the site of the Helen Trounstine Camp. In 1969, the camp opened its current location on 680 wooded acres in Switzerland County, Indiana. In 1972, it merged with the Jewish Community Center of Greater Cincinnati, and in 2001 it separated from the Cincinnati JCC to become an independent non-profit. Today, Camp Livingston is a Jewish Community Center Association affiliated overnight camp and is committed to providing its services to all Jewish families regardless of their affiliation. No one is denied admission or benefits because of race, color, national origin, sex, or age.

Camp Livingston’s mission statement describes it as a Jewish residential youth camp that enriches the lives of its campers and staff by providing a fun, unique, community experience, while encouraging the development of Jewish identity within a safe and inclusive environment. The mission statement also notes that Camp Livingston enables the formation of lifelong friendships and includes exciting recreational and creative programming.

The camp’s leadership team includes Executive Director Max Yamson; Camp Director Abby Solomon; Assistant Director, Camper Care and Staff Experience, Blake Canowitz; Assistant Director, Development and Operations, Ethan Wittenberg; and Assistant Director, Programming and Retreats, Brad Brown. Camp Livingston is a nonprofit community-based camp that serves Jewish families from regions including Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and Louisville. One camper described their experience by saying, “I can't imagine spending my summers anywhere else. Camp Livingston is my home away from home. It's a special place that encourages me to make friends while trying fun new activities. I have so much fun at camp, and I can't wait to come back year after year!”
