About
Shawnee Summer Theatre Youth Camps offers an extensive theatre immersion program that includes warm ups, theatre games, educational lessons, rehearsal, and performing in “Seussical” and “Oklahoma.” Kids camp students perform in “Seussical,” and teen camp students have a part in one or both shows. Every day of camp, performers learn about aspects of theatre from trained professionals.

The Shawnee Theatre is Indiana's longest, continuously-running summer stock theatre and has performed for thousands of patrons since opening its doors in 1960. The camp leadership includes H. Adrian Rehner, a University of Chicago theatre professor. Shawnee Theatre states that it is dedicated to producing quality theatre and other performing arts entertainment and to making live art available and accessible to everyone, with an enriched educational environment for youth and an engaging theatre experience for company members and the communities it serves. According to Indiana Public Radio, the Greene County community contributed a barn, labor, and time to get the theatre started, and over the past five decades, local patrons and businesses have been integral to the theatre, which describes itself as Greene County’s professional theatre.
