Bloomington Parks and Recreation Nature & the Outdoors Programs offers short, educational programs that highlight the wonder and mystery of the natural world. Activities include Rooted in Nature guided forest bathing, paddleboard classes, and themed events such as Community Zoo by You, Moth Night, Salamander Meander, Insect Detectives, and The Praying Mantis. The program also includes Full Moon Night Paddle, Sunset Paddle, Night Sky Viewing, Nature Play Days, Hike & Seek, Nature Break, S'mores Celebration, Emoji Day Hike, Once in a Blue Moon, Slithering Snakes, Caves and Karst, Edible Forest, Nature Ninjas, and Rainbow Rink Skate Night.

Nature Play Days in this program are part of a state-wide initiative to get kids and families outdoors to explore and play during the summer. During Night Sky Viewing, participants can learn about telescopes and view the night sky with the help of the Indiana Astronomical Society. The program is part of Bloomington Parks and Recreation, under the leadership of Mayor Kerry Thomson.
