Mill Race Theatre Company Master Classes offers focused sessions in Mastering Music Direction, Audition Techniques, Special Effects Makeup, and Intro to Stage Combat. The Mastering Music Direction class is scheduled for Saturday, June 21st, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, the Audition Techniques class is scheduled for Saturday, May 17th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and the Special Effects Makeup class is scheduled for Sunday, October 27th, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Materials are provided for the Special Effects Makeup class, and participants in Mastering Music Direction are encouraged to bring a notebook, pencil, and highlighter, while Audition Techniques participants are asked to bring a 16–32 bar cut of a song.

• Schedule: Individual master classes ranging from 1.5 to 2 hours, including Mastering Music Direction (1.5 hours), Audition Techniques (2 hours), and Special Effects Makeup (2 hours) on specific weekend dates.
• Price: Mastering Music Direction: $20; Audition Techniques: FREE; Special Effects Makeup: $20.

Mastering Music Direction is described as the fifth in a series of Master Classes by Mill Race Theatre Company for adults, Audition Techniques is described as the fourth in this series for adults, and Special Effects Makeup is described as the third in a series of adult master classes for adults ages 18+ in the Columbus, Indiana area, with this Special Effects Makeup class combined with high school students who register separately. For Mastering Music Direction and Audition Techniques, a waiver must be signed by each participant or by a parent or guardian for minors, and for Special Effects Makeup, students may bring their own eyeshadow palettes and brushes if they want to try recreating things with their own makeup. The Audition Techniques class is free and accessible to all in partnership with the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory production staff.

The Mastering Music Direction class is led by Jenny Gafron, a professional music director and teacher with more than 20 years of theatre experience and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (vocal emphasis) from Millikin University, who currently teaches middle school music and choir in the Chicago suburbs and directs and music directs their annual musical. Riley Carter, one of the band directors at Geneva High School and Fabyan/Harrison Elementary School in Geneva, Illinois, with undergraduate degrees in Music Education and saxophone performance from Illinois State University and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Vandercook College of Music, is also listed among the staff. Brittany Michelle Davis, an actor, singer, and dancer based in Indianapolis with a Bachelor’s of Music in Musical Theatre from Anderson University and experience as a choreographer, and Johna Wilson, an Advanced EMT and Primary Instructor at Columbus Township Fire and Rescue who has been teaching EMT classes for about eight years, are also part of the instructional team. Mill Race Theatre Company is the oldest community theatre organization in Columbus, Indiana and was formerly known as Mill Race Players. Performances in Mill Race Park began with “Bye Bye Birdie” in the summer of 1969, and through the years Mill Race Theatre Company has produced more than 100 shows.
