Campers also take part in team-building activities, leadership training, community service projects, scouting, swimming lessons, adventure and scouting camps, music development, and sports. Camp sessions are available as both day and overnight summer camps, and the network of free summer camps allows kids of all ages, regardless of family income level, to attend.

• Schedule: Camp sessions available as both day and overnight summer camps
• Price: Free summer camp programs; most summer camps accept state-provided child care subsidies, and scholarships are available to help families offset the cost

The Salvation Army states that its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The Salvation Army offers summer camps as part of a wider set of community programs that also includes community centers, after-school programs for students of all ages, and music, art, and athletic programs for youth. The Salvation Army camp counselors are equipped to help children navigate complicated emotions and struggles related to poverty, and they are trained to recognize the effects of the stressors of poverty on children and respond to a child’s emotional needs so kids feel safe, included, and welcome.
