Club SciKidz Central Indiana STEM Summer Camps was established in 1997, and since 1997 more than 100,000 children have attended one or more of its science day camps or school programs. Owners Bob and Sue Hagan have a combined 30 plus years of teaching experience and both hold a Master’s Degree in Education. The program states that its unique science programs are designed to meet the needs of children ages 4–15 and that it now offers 42 different themed science camps and 30 weeks of inquiry-based after-school science club experiences. Club SciKidz Central Indiana is officially accredited by STEM.org, and its curated program lessons exceed the State and National Science Education Standards.
The organization describes its mission as providing exciting, challenging, and life-impacting academic enrichment experiences, and it states that it is committed to demonstrating how science works in the real world through a wide range of disciplines. Its STEM-based lessons engage students in observation, measurement, identification of properties, and experimentation involving life, earth, and physical science concepts, and often include language arts, history, and mathematical components. The program notes that its activities emphasize a child’s natural curiosity and a strong foundation for later learning and that it aims to make a significant impact on the community through the enrichment of future minds.
Club SciKidz Central Indiana describes itself as “Fun, Safe & Scientific,” notes that it is a top choice for STEM summer camps in Carmel and Greenwood, and reports that spots are filling fast. It highlights a very robust in-school field trip and after-school STEM program, extended day programs for working parents, the highest standard of health protocols, and an interactive and content-rich website with easy camp registration and a handy schedule for parents. The program also uses an app for drop-off and pick-up check-in and notes that campers have the opportunity to gain skills in social interactions and play activities.
The organization states that it is proudly serving families across the Indianapolis metro area, including Greenwood, Carmel, Westfield, Fishers, and Zionsville. It is looking for certified teachers, college students, and outstanding high school seniors as staff.
Parent feedback includes comments such as “Fun! Lots of fun and kind, caring staff! My son came home happy and well entertained,” and “My daughter learned so much and had a blast. The teenagers/young adults that facilitated the activities were GREAT!” Other parents report that their children loved the variety of activities, fun experiments, and interaction with other kids and counselors, and one noted that it was their favorite camp of the summer. Additional comments describe a safe environment, fun activities, great hours, lots of unique activities, an organized and well-run program, and thoughtful and caring teachers and director.
