About
Indy Summer Learning Labs offers students activities such as field trips, STEM clubs, athletics, cooking, and arts. The program includes five weeks of math and reading instruction using English Language Arts (ELA) and math curriculums that are aligned to Indiana state standards. The curriculum is developed by Lavinia Group to accelerate learning over a five-week time period and focuses on acceleration instead of remediation.
• Ages: 6–15 years old
• Schedule: June 15 – July 17, 2026, in a five-week session
• Price: A free summer learning program in Indianapolis for incoming 1st-9th graders. Some locations may charge additional fees for before- or after-care outside regular program hours, or for extended weeks beyond June 15 –July 17.
Math and reading instruction at Indy Summer Learning Labs is taught by licensed teachers. Indy Summer Learning Labs is a program of The Mind Trust, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit that works to expand access to high-quality education for K-12 students. Community partners work alongside districts and schools to offer Indy Summer Learning Labs, and this collaborative initiative brings together schools and community organizations to address the needs of families and students in Marion County. In 2024, The Mind Trust gained full responsibility of Indy Summer Learning Labs program management and partners with schools, districts, and community organizations as site locations. Many sites offer breakfast and lunch each day, and the program maintains elements that help working families access summer programming. Site location partners are not burdened with the task of curriculum development.
Indy Summer Learning Labs was launched in 2021 by The Mind Trust and The United Way of Central Indiana as a response to significant learning loss caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Summer Learning Labs served more than 12,000 students in summer 2025 at 144 locations across 37 cities in Indiana. Participating students saw a 25 percentage point learning gain in reading and a 24 percentage point learning gain in math in 2025. Indy Summer Learning Labs (ISLL) serves students who can benefit from continued summer instruction and enrichment activities to drive increased math and reading achievement.
The leadership team includes Jazmin Sanders, Senior Director of Innovative Learning, The Mind Trust; Ricky Ganaishlal, Manager of Operations, Summer Learning Labs; A'Mya Springer, Manager of School Supports and Summer Programming; Madeline Poulakidas, Senior Director of Finance and Operations, The Mind Trust; Dani Neal, Director of Operations, The Mind Trust; and Alexis Dunlop, Manager of Operations, The Mind Trust.
