About

The SEED/STEM Summer Program gives high school students hands-on research experience through an immersive summer project. Participants work alongside professional researchers and lab members, actively participate in research projects, and contribute to cutting-edge projects in health, technology, and life sciences. By the end of the summer, students prepare a research poster to showcase their findings.

• Ages: 15–18 years old
• Schedule: Eight-week program, Monday through Friday, for approximately eight hours per day from June 8 – July 30, 2026
• Price: Stipends (up to $4,000) are provided to eligible students based on financial need; the SEED/STEM program offers $4,000 stipends to qualifying students

The SEED/STEM program offers Indiana high school students a transformative, hands-on research experience in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Students are paired with leading research faculty who mentor them and are matched with research labs at institutions such as the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indiana University Indianapolis, and the Indiana Bioscience Research Institute (IBRI). Students will have to provide documentation to verify household annual income for 2023 and 2024 to determine financial eligibility for stipends, using one of several accepted forms of proof such as tax forms, school meal eligibility, or participation in certain federal or TRIO programs.

The SEED/STEM Program is part of a longstanding initiative in collaboration with the American Chemical Society’s Project SEED, which was founded in 1968. The program’s goal in 2026 is to raise financial support to fund 26 stipends of $4,000 each, with any additional funds supporting overall program costs. The leadership contact for the program is Vanessa Santana, SEED/STEM Program Coordinator.
