About

The SEED/STEM Summer Program gives high school students hands-on research experience through an immersive summer research project. Students work alongside professional researchers, actively participate in research projects, collaborate with lab members, contribute to cutting-edge projects in health, technology, and life sciences, and prepare a research poster to showcase their findings.

• Ages: 15–18 years old
• Schedule: Eight-week program, Monday through Friday for approximately eight hours per day (Summer 2026 dates: June 8 – July 30, 2026)
• Price: Stipends up to $4,000 are provided to eligible students based on financial need; the SEED/STEM program offers $4,000 stipends to qualifying students.

The SEED/STEM program offers Indiana high school students a hands-on research experience in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Students are paired with leading research faculty mentors and are matched with research labs at institutions such as the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indiana University Indianapolis, and the Indiana Bioscience Research Institute (IBRI). The program is part of a longstanding initiative in collaboration with the American Chemical Society’s Project SEED, which was founded in 1968. The SEED/STEM Program Coordinator is Vanessa Santana. The program’s goal in 2026 is to raise financial support to fund 26 stipends of $4,000 each, and funds raised above this stipend goal support overall program costs. Students will have to provide documentation to verify household annual income for 2023 and 2024, using one of several accepted documents to demonstrate financial eligibility, such as a 1040 tax form, proof of eligibility for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, SNAP, WIC, participation in a TRIO program, or eligibility for the SAT/ACT fee waiver.
