Swim Lessons includes Parent & Child Swim Lessons, Preschool Swim Lessons, Youth Swim Lessons, Teen & Adult Swim Lessons, Private Swim Lessons, Swim Clinics, Youth Swim Teams, Water Specialty and Training, and Water Fitness. Participants can move through specific stages such as Stage A Water Discovery, Stage B Water Exploration, Stage 1 Water Acclimation, Stage 2 Water Movement, Stage 3 Water Stamina, Stage 4 Stroke Introduction, Stage 5 Stroke Development, and Stage 6 Stroke Mechanics. Additional options include Youth Stroke Technique (Stroke Development Clinic), Youth Starts, Streamline & Turns Clinic, and Youth Water Polo Clinic, which teaches basics of water polo including swimming with the ball, passing, and shooting.

Youth Starts, Streamline & Turns Clinic Rates: $90 Members; $90 Before and After School and/or Early Learning Participants; $108 Non-Members.

For over 150 years, the YMCA has helped people of all ages become strong, confident swimmers, and swim lessons are offered year-round. Parent & Child Swim Lessons are for swimmers between 6 months and 3 years old and their parents, Preschool Swim Lessons are for swimmers ages 3 to 5, Youth Swim Lessons are for swimmers ages 6 to 12, and Teen & Adult Swim Lessons are for swimmers over 12 years old. Private Swim Lessons offer one-on-one and two-student formats and are designed to provide accelerated learning and individualized attention, and Teen & Adult Swim Lessons are designed to help participants feel comfortable and confident in the pool and progress at their own pace. Youth Stroke Technique clinic focuses on improving stroke technique and teaching drills for continued refinement of swim strokes, and Youth Starts, Streamline & Turns Clinic focuses on improving start, underwater streamline and turns. Water polo is described as a combination of swimming, basketball, soccer and team handball, and 1 million children learn to swim at the Y each year.

Center Advisory Board Chairs include Mitchell Frazier, Adrienne Preddie, Andy Kocher, Tim Martin, Jason Patterson, Craig Fenneman, Craig White, Tony Hahn, John Shelbourne, Thea Kelly, Dustin Kolp, and Marisa Zambrano.

Parent feedback includes comments such as “The Y is home… the people at the front desk always have a smile on their face… ALWAYS,” from Jackie, a YMCA member. Another member, John O, describes the Avondale Meadows YMCA as “one of the newer Y's in Indy and THE nicest urban YMCA I've seen.” Jackie B., a Benjamin Harrison YMCA member, says, “This place has always felt like home to me.
