• Ages: 4–14 years old
• Schedule: T-Ball teams practice and play on game days held on Saturday mornings, Rookie (6U) games are mostly on Saturday mornings with some activities during the week, and divisions from 8U through 14U play approximately 6–15 games per season with additional single-elimination or end-of-season tournaments depending on division.
• Price: There is no fee to try out for the 2024 Lafayette Lightning teams.
The T-Ball league is tee only with no coach pitch, focuses on reducing down time, and aims to create more action in the field and on the bases while pushing the pace of games to get as many repetitions as possible for all players. The Rookie (6U) league teaches running bases properly, making plays on balls and attempting outs, knowing which bases to throw to, hitting a pitch from a coach, and learning the concept of out versus safe in an environment of fun and sportsmanship. The 8U Division uses a pitching machine for batters, keeps score, and includes a mid-season tournament and an end of season tournament with the county league. The 10U Division uses a coach pitch/player pitch hybrid model to allow players’ arms to develop at a safe and healthy rate while gaining experience and includes a mid-season and end of season player/coach pitch hybrid tournament. The 12U Division allows players to lead off and steal from all bases, follows Major League Baseball rules closely, is competitive, uses umpires, and keeps league standings. The 14U Division uses regular Major League rules, emphasizes both individual skill development and team strategies, and plays approximately 15 games with 1–2 practices per week.
The T-Ball league will play approximately 6–8 games, the Rookie (6U) league will play approximately 8–12 games, the 8U and 10U Divisions will each play approximately 12 games plus two single elimination tournaments, and the 12U Division will play approximately 12–15 games and will feature an end of season tournament with all teams participating. The 10U Division holds 1–2 practices per week, and the 12U and 14U Divisions each hold 1–2 practices per week. The 2024 Lafayette Lightning teams tryouts are scheduled for July 19, 2023, with sessions from 5:00–6:30pm for 9U and 10U and from 7:00–8:30pm for 11U and 12U, with a rain date of July 20th, and players are asked to arrive 15 minutes early.
