Korea Taekwondo Academy was founded in 1974 by Grandmaster Chul Koo Yoon and has provided continuous martial arts instruction in Indiana for more than fifty years. The school’s lineage begins with Grandmaster Yoon and continues through the influence of Grandmaster Garth Cooley, who played a major role in shaping the culture and teaching methods used at the academy. Korea Taekwondo Academy has served as a cornerstone of martial arts in the Indianapolis and central Indiana area since 1974 and remains a trusted and enduring part of the community.
Korea Taekwondo Academy is led by a team of internationally certified Black Belt instructors who provide martial arts education tailored to every student and continue to develop their own skills through ongoing education. The academy offers a structured curriculum designed to build focus, discipline, coordination, and confidence, and most students train to build confidence, improve fitness, and develop life skills. Programs include daily martial arts classes specifically designed for children that blend Taekwondo and practical self-defense with age-appropriate drills, a dedicated adult curriculum with multiple class times, and programs for families with an emphasis on developing a closer family bond when the entire family participates.
Korea Taekwondo Academy offers one of the largest and most modern martial arts facilities in central Indiana, with a modern, spacious training environment, clean mats, well-maintained equipment, and a professional atmosphere. The academy uses a month-to-month membership structure without long-term contracts, offers discounted family rates and flexible class options, and is one of the only martial arts schools in the country that does not require year or multi-year contracts or memberships. Families can try Taekwondo for just $99 for 4 weeks of classes with no contracts and no pressure, and all levels are welcome.
Korea Taekwondo Academy is recognized as central Indiana’s leader in Taekwondo for more than 50 years and has produced national and international medalists. The Sport Poomsae Seminar features current and former USA Taekwondo National Poomsae Team members and is led by three elite national and world competitors and coaches. Thousands of students have earned their Black Belts at KTA.
Testimonials from students and families describe learning self-defense, gaining self-confidence, improving patience, and experiencing classes where problems of the day “just melted away.” Students report that Taekwondo at KTA has helped them improve academics, other sports, and their attitude toward themselves and others, and some describe long-lasting friendships and an uplifting environment. One testimonial from a law enforcement professional states that many problems in society would be greatly reduced if more people trained in Taekwondo.
