About
Valparaiso Family YMCA Preschool & Pre-K includes activities in language arts, handwriting, math concepts, science, social and emotional awareness, music, visual arts, and large and small muscle development. Children in this program also participate in Swim Time, use the playground, go on walking field trips, visit a splash pad, attend fitness classes, and have additional gym time.
• Ages: 3–5 years old
• Schedule: Full-day care is available all year from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, and half-day options are available during the school year with morning and afternoon sessions.
• Price: Full-day and half-day options range from weekly rates of $195–$215 and monthly rates of $170–$270, depending on membership status and specific class option.
Breakfast is provided from 7:00–7:30 am, and children must be in the classroom by 9:30 am. Each child must bring a nut-free lunch, a spare set of clothes, and a small blanket and pillow for nap. All children 3 and above must be potty trained, and everyone must have a physical and immunizations prior to starting, with all paperwork due the Wednesday before the week of care.
Valparaiso Family YMCA Preschool & Pre-K uses an Early Childhood Creative Curriculum with 38 research-based learning objectives organized into 10 areas of development and learning. The program is part of a HEPA Facility, with healthy eating and physical activity provided 30–60 minutes per day, and fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grain snacks are provided. The program maintains 10:1 ratios in all classrooms, with a 1:5 ratio for toddlers, and operates as a high quality staff registered ministry.
The mission of the Valparaiso Family YMCA is to be a charitable non-profit organization that improves the quality of life in its communities through programs and services that strengthen the spirit, mind, and body for all. The Y offers scholarships for membership and programs, including child care, and serves as a community center and partner offering events, trainings, workshops, and multiple services to help families in need. Leadership connected to childcare includes Melanie Hoffman, Childcare Director; Audrey Sheehan, Assistant Director of Childcare; and Aprille Powell, Childcare Services Specialist, along with additional organizational leaders such as Sharon Johnson, CEO, and Bailey, Director of Pawsitivity Certified Therapy Dog.
