About
Kevin Jones Performing Arts Studio (KJPAS) offers vocal and acting training that includes vocal technique, song analysis, monologue work, character development, and audition techniques. Students can work on sight-singing and ear training, harmonization, music theory, musical theatre history, improvisation, and the study of the great method acting teachers. The studio also provides acting for film and television, cold-reading techniques for audition call-backs, headshot and resume development, voice and acting lessons, coaching sessions, and self-taping sessions for audition self-submissions, including filming a self-tape audition.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: A full week of professional training with Broadway performers in the summer, and a weekend of professional training in the winter
Kevin Jones is the artistic director of the KJPAS Summer and Winter Intensives and has spent more than 30 years working in professional theatre as an actor, musical director, director, and choreographer. His credits include the Broadway first and fourth national tours of Disney’s Beauty And The Beast, the Asian tour of Annie, the European tour of Annie Get Your Gun, three productions of Evita, and two of Phantom, as well as work as musical supervisor for the Oceania Marina and Regent Seven Seas Mariner cruise ships. He holds a B.MUS.ED from Western University in Canada and a certificate in musical theater performance from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. For 22 years, he has served as choreographer for the award winning Roanoke Valley Children's Choir, and for 27 years he has served as artistic director of the KJPAS Summer and Winter Intensives (Performing Arts Camps) in Virginia.
KJPAS offers a professional training program for children, teens and adults that fully prepares each student for professional theatre and/or college auditions, with a curriculum that is individualized for each student. Many KJPAS students have gone on to perform in Broadway shows, national tours, film and television, and regional theatre productions, and others are studying at top theatre schools in the country. Almost every student Kevin coaches not only gets cast in the show they are auditioning for, but they almost always land a leading role. KJPAS also coaches professionals and amateurs, kids and adults around the world for auditions for theater, film and television, including virtual coaching via FaceTime, coaching for film and television auditions, help getting students onto Actors Access, and KJPAS Vocal & Acting Training Studio Lessons, Intensives, Virtual Sessions, and Self-Taping Sessions.
KJPAS is fully-equipped to help create self-tape audition submissions and has an extensive music and acting library. KJPAS collects data for students for the purpose of developing a study, practice, and performance curriculum suited for the student, and keeps this information private and only used for that purpose. The program is relocating to central Kansas in July 2024, with lessons conducted via FaceTime unless the student lives in central Kansas. Kevin continues to work professionally as an actor, filming television commercials.
One testimonial from former student Nigel Huckle states, “Kevin helped me to unleash my talent, and prepared me to rise above and beyond the expectations of my high school years. With his help, I entered a high caliber musical theatre program at Shenandoah University, where I found success while working professionally in the summers between school years!” Another testimonial from former student MacKenzie Mauzy states, “I went to Kevin Jones’ first camp (intensive) where I was taught how to apply everything I was learning to real life experiences. He taught me what auditioning would look like: how to hold myself; how to interact with directors; and music directors. It opened a whole other world for me where I started to see this as a profession…”
