Feisty Music Camp for Kids is a two-day event that includes hands-on, music-related crafts, workshops, and concerts. Activities include Interactive Kids Concerts with Ken & Brad Kolodner, RUNA, Verch & Newberry, and Bing Futch, as well as Acoustic Kids with Andy May and Folk Dancing with The Lost Keys called by Dana Hamilton. Kids can take part in rhythm workshops, songwriting sessions, dulcimer and ukulele playing with instruments provided or brought from home, a Kids Jam with provided percussion or their own instruments, an Instrument Petting Zoo, and an Open Mic/Kids Showcase where they can bring a song to share.

Feisty Music Camp for Kids is organized and operated by Music Camp Organizers Erin Mae and Aaron Fowler. Erin Mae has brought American music education into public schools, home school co-ops, libraries, churches, foster care programs, and summer camps, and she won the national Mountain Dulcimer Championship at Winfield in 2004. She studied classical piano at Sterling College in Kansas, then pursued a degree in commercial music with an emphasis in bluegrass and acoustic jazz at South Plains College in Texas, and she has toured full-time with the duo Scenic Roots and now works as a full-time freelance mountain dulcimer and kids folk music educator. Aaron Fowler is a touring musician, storyteller, and teaching artist who has been making music since he was 16 years old, is a member of the Wolf Trap Early Learning Through the Arts national training team in Vienna, Virginia, a teaching artist with Arts Partners in Wichita, Kansas, a national touring singer-songwriter, and serves as the US Vice President of the American Federated Musicians Local 1000 Touring Musicians union.
Feisty Music Camp for Kids states a commitment to providing accessibility for people with visible or invisible disabilities. The camp notes that parents or guardians are required to remain onsite, that grown-ups stay with their kids, and that there is a relaxed come-and-go schedule. The camp provides kids with their own water cups and ice water on site. Dulcimers, ukuleles, and other instruments used at the camp are borrowed from Great Plains Dulcimer Alliance and Winfield Arts and Humanities Council, and Walnut Valley Festival thanks these organizations for their support of Feisty Music Camp for Kids. Families are asked to plan on arriving 10 minutes before a session’s start, and a release is signed for each child participating.
