About

Crawfish Aquatics Swim Lessons offers year-round swim lessons, outreach swimming lessons, and a swim team that participates in swim meets. The program also includes Adult Fitness, Swim Parties, School Leagues, Certification Courses, and water safety education presentations. It is connected with a Special Olympics training site and the Blessed By Downs program, where Crawfish swimmers serve as volunteer instructors.

Crawfish Aquatics Swim Lessons is part of a broader organization led by owners Dr. Steve and Jan Ripple, with Nan Fontenot serving as Lessons Director at CA-BR. The mission of Crawfish Aquatics is a total swim experience offering high quality instruction and focused on overall development, with stated values of integrity, teamwork, and the fulfillment of potential for personal health, family fun, and community impact. Crawfish Agape International was founded in 2015, and since 2012 Crawfish has helped provide free lessons to more than 4,000 participants. Each December since 2009, Crawfish Aquatics hosts a swim meet where all participants bring a gift donation instead of paying an entry fee, donating over 300 gift items each year to organizations such as Brave Heart Children in Need and Toys for Tots. In 2013, Crawfish Aquatics established a swim team site at Nicholls in Thibodaux, which serves as a competition venue for local high schools and a Special Olympics training site where pool space is donated each year for Special Olympics athletes to train.

Through Crawfish Agape International, the organization supports Louisiana communities with water safety education presentations in area schools, outreach swimming lessons, swimming scholarships, and free water safety education materials. Each Crawfish location provides free water safety presentations to schools and camps with a certified instructor and mascot Carl the Crawfish. Crawfish has provided financial assistance, offered free camps, and opened facilities to families in need during natural disasters in the south Louisiana region. Through Crawfish Agape, they also provide resources to local high school athletics in Thibodaux, assist the Lorio Foundation in improving the Nicholls State University Special Olympics training site, and partner with area churches and nonprofits such as RocketKidz Foundation.

According to Lessons Director Nan Fontenot, the owners’ focus on impacting and changing lives is seen throughout the year-round swim lessons and outreach lessons programs, and she notes that this is reflected in the instructors who work with children each summer.
