About
Codeverse offers kids access to the interactive coding platform Codeverse Studio, where they can work through on-demand educational coding activities, Missions from beginner through pro levels, and mini coding challenges. The program includes self-guided coding activities for beginners that take kids through the entire process of building an app or game, and it uses a real programming language called KidScript® along with real developer tools so kids can build real apps and games. Through Varsity Tutors' platform, Codeverse also offers camps, live group classes, and StarCourses, with live instruction from expert coders.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
Codeverse describes itself as an award-winning creativity platform for kids ages 6+, inspiring and empowering kids to bring their ideas to life while developing skills that last a lifetime. The platform includes a full library of on-demand educational coding activities ranging from Beginner to Pro, and kids have created over 500,000 projects. Kids can work with a friendly and intuitive code editor and development environment that includes hints, syntax support, autocompletion, and real-time error messages, and they can pause and inspect running projects, step through their work, and even reverse execution to go back in time and inspect prior code behavior. The system uses a rank structure with titles such as Codeling, Engineer, Pilot, Specialist, and Commander, and kids earn points, badges, and rank based on different ways they create and learn, including completing mini coding challenges that range in difficulty.
KidScript® follows common concepts from professional languages such as Ruby, JavaScript, Java, C++, and Python and has strict, easy-to-understand syntax. Missions in Codeverse introduce universal concepts of coding including variables, methods, loops, and conditionals, and kids can personalize and customize their work within these Missions. The platform offers a huge library of familiar objects, such as animals, shapes, and food, that kids can interact with in their projects.
Codeverse includes Community Games where kids can find apps and games made by other kids. Projects can be shared with friends and family, work on any mobile device, and can be made public so other Codeverse kids can find, play, and fork creations. Kids can submit their best work to the App Store, and ages 10+ can increase rank, unlock advanced coding challenges, collaborate with peers and Guides, and publish projects to the App Store. Ages 6–9 receive live, personalized instruction from a certified Guide, and expert coders provide live instruction through Varsity Tutors' platform.
The platform is described as safe and secure for kids under 13, with automated and manual moderation of content and no direct communication between users. Parents can access their child’s profile to track progress, view content, and see social connections, and there is an option to change a profile to private at any time. Through Varsity Tutors' platform, kids can attend camps, live group classes, and StarCourses. Codeverse is supported by investors, entrepreneurs, education advisors, and partners from world-class organizations and is described as an award-winning creativity platform for kids.
