About
Belmont After School Enrichment Collaborative (BASEC) offers workshops, vacation camps, theater, sports, and themed activities such as Being Present and Olympics. The program also includes community service, conflict resolution, and multi-age activities with mentoring of the youngest students. Program sites are described as individual cultures of learning where students build relationships with peers, older and younger students, and educators, with diverse activities and a flexible schedule based on student choice.

BASEC’s mission is to provide high-quality out-of-school time programming for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade and to cultivate a community in which young people engage in enriching opportunities to nurture their physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. The program focuses on academics, executive function coaching, homework support, social-emotional learning, and 21st century skills such as communication, creative problem solving, collaboration, grit, leadership, flexibility, inquiry, and mindful awareness. BASEC is a family-governed, non-profit collaborative where family participation on all levels is expected and encouraged, and it emphasizes community service and citizenship. Staff are described as trained teachers with wide-ranging expertise.
The organization brings together out-of-school programs to develop creative, resilient, resourceful, and responsible youth and is committed to inclusiveness and to balancing the needs of the individual with the well-being of the group as a whole. BASEC is open to all students in grades K–8 for vacation programs and also offers resources to parents and educators about out-of-school time learning. The leadership team includes an Executive Director ([email protected]), the BASEC @ Chenery Assistant Director Blake Stensland, the BASEC @ Burbank Director of Student Programming Ellen McEllin, and the BASEC @ Burbank Site Director Sarah Houtmeyers.
