Nantucket Community Music Center

Nantucket Community Music Center offers the Nantucket Island Youth Orchestra (NIYO), Rock Band Program, Youth Chorus, Private Lessons, Semi-Private Lessons, Beginner Ukulele, Celtic Slow Sessions, Celtic Flow Open Sessions, Community Jazz Band, Community Chorus, and Music Lessons. NIYO provides free instruments and instruction to Nantucket’s youth, and the music lessons include private and semi-private options for a wide variety of instruments, available in person or online via Virtual Maestro technology.

• Nantucket Island Youth Orchestra (NIYO) — After-school · Free instruments and instruction to Nantucket’s youth.
• Rock Band Program — A program where aspiring musicians can collaborate, create, and perform in a supportive environment.
• Youth Chorus — 8+ · A fun beginner music class for kids age 8+ to sing in a lively group setting.
• Rock Band After School — Thursdays 5-7pm · A cool after school class for young musicians to jam out in a rock band setting.
• Private Lessons — 5 and up · $180–$300 per month · Monthly subscriptions for private lessons; 30-minute, 45-minute, and 60-minute private lesson options are listed.
• Semi-Private Lessons (2-4 Students) — 5 and up · $260 per month · 60 Minute Semi-Private Lesson: $260/month/student.
• Beginner Ukulele — Mondays 5:30-6:15pm · A group ukulele drop-in class for individuals, families, friends and all in between.
• Celtic Slow Sessions — Wednesdays 7-8:30pm · Drop in and enjoy playing classic Celtic tunes in a group setting.
• Celtic Flow Open Sessions — 2nd Wednesdays
• Community Jazz Band — Nantucket’s beloved local jazz ensemble; jazz band has wrapped up for the year.
• Community Chorus — One of Nantucket’s longest-running community choirs; community choir has wrapped up for the year.
• Music Lessons — 5 and up · Private and semi-private lessons for a wide variety of instruments, available in person or online.

About the provider

Nantucket Community Music Center is celebrating 50 years of music education on Nantucket. Its mission is to enrich the cultural life of the island by fostering and supporting music education and performance opportunities for young people and adults. Leadership includes Executive Director Tony Wagner, Director of After-School Programs Lauren Roberts, Board of Trustees President Carol Spinelli, Vice President/Secretary Melissa Ryan, and Financial Officer Bisy Stancheva. The organization asks participants to be members, with membership starting at $50 per year, and scholarship assistance is available on a first come, first served basis.
