About
Kidspace at MASS MoCA is a creative laboratory where children can make art, explore individual art projects, and join collaborative community art projects. At the ArtBar, the program offers individual art projects, collaborative community art projects, and Little Explorer Kits for the youngest visitors, and families can take a project home with them. Family Storytime includes a storytime and related exploration in the galleries, along with a brief gallery walk-through and discussion of the art.
• Ages: 0–6 years old
• Schedule: Kidspace is open during museum hours.
• Price: Admission to Kidspace and the ArtBar is always free. DCF: Family Visits reservations to the museum are required (and free!). Family Storytime is free.
Kidspace at MASS MoCA centers experiential learning and inspiring curiosity in the arts for all, using MASS MoCA’s exhibitions, performances, and artist residencies as a starting point to foster visitors’ self expression. Visitors are encouraged to investigate Kidspace, nurture their own creativity, and share what they have done with others. Family Storytime is for children up to 6 years old, each session features a different children’s book about contemporary art, creativity, and/or themes of the exhibitions on display, and older siblings are welcome to attend. Caregivers are asked to stay with their children at all times during Family Storytime, and at this time large groups cannot be accommodated in storytime. Families and social workers are welcome to use the Kidspace Classroom and explore MASS MoCA’s galleries for supervised visits and/or a kid-friendly place to gather during regular museum hours, and reservations to the museum for DCF Family Visits are required and free. This program is in partnership with the North Adams Public Library, with core education funding provided by the W.L.S. Spencer Foundation and Mass Cultural Council. RSVP is required to reserve a spot for Family Storytime, and to arrange a group visit or discuss educational components, families can contact the museum’s education staff by email or phone.
