The summer programs are designed for students ages 7 to 16 who range in experience from beginner to black belt, and are open to current students of all levels, advanced students, and new students. Students are split into different groups depending on age and belt level, and the maximum class size is set at 16–20, with all sessions subject to cancellation if the minimum registration of 8 students is not met, in which case payments are refunded. All Levels weeks (Weeks 1, 2, and 6) are the only sessions open to new students, while Agility and Weapons weeks (Weeks 3, 4, and 5) require yellow belts or higher, or new students who attend Week 1 and/or Week 2, and Advanced weeks are 4-day programs for specified advanced students. All programs are taught by qualified black belt instructors, including Instructor Mark Carletti (owner of Davis Square Martial Arts), Instructor Karen Gutterman, and instructors Jason Reed, Peter Medeiros, Marcus Morimoto, and Jonathan Scott. In kids and summer programs, they emphasize paying attention, doing your best, treating everyone with respect, and having fun, and work to create a positive learning environment where students can safely learn martial arts. Over 300 students are enrolled in kids kung fu classes, and Scout Magazine/SCOUTV interviewed Instructor Mark Carletti and produced a video showcasing the studio. If a child is a new student to the program, a parent must contact the office at [email protected] to set up an intro lesson to be eligible for the summer program.
