About

RBI Academy Winter Skills Training Programs include a Winter Hitting Program with warmup stations, base hitting drills, and situational hitting work. Athletes take part in an On Base U mobility screen, K-Motion technology assessment of body positioning and kinematic sequencing in the swing, and the creation of a Swing Profile using Blast Motion and a Batted Ball Profile using the HitTrax system. The program also includes comprehensive video analysis, full individual assessments, individualized drills and training plans for both training days and out-of-facility days, and weekly data collection to track and measure player progress.

Each 90-minute session consists of a 45-minute supervised warmup and drill period followed by a 45-minute analysis of swing and approach. Warmups include dynamic stretches, medicine ball work, and individualized movement prep drills, all supervised by highly knowledgeable staff in small groups of four athletes. The program uses RBI’s state-of-the-art technology each week, including K-Motion, Blast, HitTrax, and Rapsodo, along with training tools such as Driveline’s weighted bats, Plyo Balls, and four Hack Attack Pitching Machines that can simulate in-game velocity and a variety of off-speed pitches.

The Advanced Hitters Winter Training Program is newly designed for this winter and is powered by HitTrax, Rapsodo pitching and hitting analysis, Blast Motion, and K-Motion. The 15-week program is comprehensive and progressive, with three different phases throughout the off-season and adjusted goals and curriculum. In the first few weeks, athletes receive a full assessment, including the On Base U mobility screen and technology-based evaluations, and an individual development plan is formulated and then adjusted throughout the winter.

Base hitting drills that apply to all players are used to set a foundation, and a second phase leans more toward what each individual specifically needs to address in practice. Practice plans are provided for days when athletes are not in programming, and athletes are prescribed drills and other programming for their off days. Phase 2 also features video reviews and scheduled times for updated reassessments.

The final phase focuses on game preparedness, using four Hack Attack Pitching Machines to train against in-game velocity and a variety of off-speed pitches. During this phase, coaches take a deeper look at situational hitting, approach, pitch selection, and swing decision. Weekly data collection is used to track and measure player progress and adjust individual plans.

RBI is available for cage time and open tunnel time for athletes in this program before 4pm and after 8:30pm Monday through Thursday. Once an athlete has selected a program, they participate on that day and time throughout the winter, except for assessment weeks. If a player cannot make a scheduled time slot, RBI will almost always be able to accommodate another time during the week with proper notice.

Athletes are grouped using many factors after registration is completed. At registration, families select a window of days and times that work, and a director assigns an exact session in November. Warmup stations and small groups of four are led by an extremely qualified and experienced staff. Chris Sullivan is listed as the contact for questions regarding these programs at [email protected].
