Since 1973, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro North (formerly Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham & Wakefield) has served young people across Stoneham, Wakefield, and Saugus. The organization states that it provides safe, supportive spaces where kids and teens build confidence, connect with mentors, and discover what they love, and that it serves families of every background, welcoming youth regardless of race, ability, gender identity, or family structure. It reports providing after school and summer spaces for over 6,000 youth each year, with nearly 500 youth visiting the Clubs each day, and notes that programs are made affordable through the generosity of donors and partners. The stated mission is “doing whatever it takes to help kids and teens build great futures.” Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro North is led by CEO John Shagoury, with Adam Rodgers noted as a former CEO, and is an affiliate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The organization is seeking local volunteers with professional experience in Marketing, Human Resources, and IT, and is participating in the Summer Food Service program to provide free lunches in the summer. One member, Amaia, shared that staff showed empathy when her mother worked late and when she was sad, and that she felt cared for at the Clubs.
