Indigo Fire Watertown, 79r Grove St, Watertown, MA 2472
About
Indigo Fire Summer Youth Program takes place in a teaching-focused pottery studio where kids take part in pottery activities. The program is part of a broader set of offerings that include kids programming, summer programming for kids, one time workshops, private lessons, group events, visiting artist workshops, and community events. Participants may also be involved in studio sales such as a spring sale and a holiday sale that feature pottery.
• Price: Participants in sales pay a modest table fee and keep all pottery sales.
Indigo Fire is a teaching-focused pottery studio with two locations outside of Boston. It offers semester classes, studio memberships, workshops, private lessons, and summer programming for kids, and hosts roughly 300 class students each semester and 140 Independent Study Members. The studio is primarily a cone 6, oxidation studio with a soda kiln, six different clay bodies, and more than 20 bucket glazes, most of which are unique recipes mixed in-house. Students have access to a library in both studios, can practice whenever the studio is open except during special events, and receive a clay allotment that allows them to use different clay bodies. The listing price for classes, studio membership, workshops, and retail tools and merchandise is all inclusive, with taxes included and the studio covering fees, and participants in sales keep all pottery sales. Indigo Fire’s stated goal is to provide a friendly, non-intimidating environment for those interested in learning about and making pottery. Indigo Fire was established in the summer of 2012 by its original founder Suchi Mumford, and in 2018 Ned took over as the sole owner; Indigo Fire Watertown was opened in 2021. The studio donates auction items to schools, community organizations, and charities every year to help them raise money, and awards tuition aid of $250 off class registration to five recipients every semester.
