Teachers and staff are trained in health and safety practices, including pandemic-response protocols, first aid, CPR, and safety measures related to field trips or off-site activities. Staff members receive training in child development, early childhood education, or a related field, and criminal background checks are conducted on staff. The program follows local health department guidelines and the guidance of the schools it operates in. The mission of Champions states that activities combine fun and learning, include group and individual options, and cover areas such as art, dramatic play, math, science, problem-solving, language, and motor skills, with daily lessons in community building and character development. The program states that only authorized staff and families may enter sites, all sites include smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, cleaning supplies are locked out of children’s reach, and all children must be signed in and out using a paper-based roster and/or computer system, with only pre-approved people with photo identification allowed to pick up children.

The program notes that most sites offer breakfast, lunch, and snacks with menus that satisfy applicable federal and state nutrition guidelines, and that sites may restrict certain food items to accommodate food allergies. Each site has an emergency evacuation plan that is tested frequently, as well as an emergency plan and list of procedures posted in each classroom, and a National Support Center crisis team that supports each center during and after emergencies. Families can adjust their child’s schedule from week to week with options for full-time or part-time care, and children can attend as early as 48 hours after completing the online enrollment process. Tuition is charged weekly on Thursday mornings for the following week, is due by Friday, and autopay is available; if a schedule is not set by the Wednesday prior to the week of care, a higher drop-in fee is charged. Upon arrival, families complete a wellness screening near the Family Communication Area to assess if the child is well enough to attend that day, and written authorization must be on file before a child is released to anyone. To authorize staff to give prescription or non-prescription medications or apply topical non-prescription medications, families must complete a site form, and a doctor’s note is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, for any child under age 2.
