Since 1999, Black Belt Academy has been providing instruction in Olympic Taekwondo and has been in business in the Beltsville, Maryland area for over 20 years. Master Nigel Chai Chong is the owner and chief instructor of Black Belt Academy. Master Nigel Chai Chong has over 30 years of teaching experience, is a World Taekwondo Federation certified Master, an Intercontinental Coach's License holder, and a USA Taekwondo and AAU National Team Coach, and has coached numerous athletes to USA and AAU National Team positions, including serving as a USA Taekwondo National Team Coach and Junior World Championship Team Coach. The purpose of Black Belt Academy's After-School Program is to offer discipline by fostering mental and physical enhancement as well as encouraging character development through teaching martial arts, getting involved with each student, and offering homework assistance, and the program description states that children will have fun in the process.

Black Belt Academy offers instruction in Olympic Taekwondo, which is characterized by fast, high, and spinning kicks, and offers classes for all ages from beginners to advanced level. The BBA Summer Camp is described as a way to improve martial arts skills or to be introduced to martial arts for the first time. According to the program, Black Belt Academy provides children with the chance to develop character, learn life skills, and make new friends, and describes itself as more than taekwondo, stating that it is a family. There are at least four current or past USA Taekwondo or AAU National Champions that are part of the team and are on hand to partner with students, and members of other schools and teams occasionally drop in to train. The academy reports that it has touched hundreds of families through its programs and sharing the practice of taekwondo.

The program lists extensive competitive credentials and awards associated with its team, including multiple gold medals at AAU National Championships from 2010 through 2019, multiple gold medals at USA Taekwondo (USAT) National Championships, gold medals at the U.S. Open, Canada Open, Mexico Open, Trinidad and Tobago Open, German Open, and the President’s Cup, as well as AAU National Team and USA Taekwondo Cadet National Team memberships and a silver medal at the 2015 Cadet World Championship. One parent, Sean P., states, “My son has been here for years now and loves it. His growth in the sport and as a young man has been rewarding for him and us as a family. Would highly recommend!”
