Scouting Programs – National Capital Area Council

Scouting Programs – National Capital Area Council follows the mission statement, “Scouting: where kids grow into leaders, adventurers, and role models.” The program requires registered leaders to complete specific training in order to participate in meetings, outdoor activities, service projects, and summer camp.

• Schedule: Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) typically appears on a leader’s account 24–48 hours after completion.

Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) has replaced Youth Protection Training (YPT) for this council. Every registered leader must complete SYT by May 31, 2026 to continue to participate in Scouting. Leaders who have not completed SYT have had their accounts and Scoutbook Plus access suspended, and SYT must be completed to participate in unit activities as a leader, including meetings, outdoor activities, service projects, and summer camp. The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments issues air quality warnings for the council’s geographic area, and units and districts are instructed to refrain from outdoor and strenuous activities if the air quality is forecast to be unhealthy.
