• Ages: 5–18 years old
Bellicose Martial Arts began in 2010 as Bowie Mixed Martial Arts and changed its name to Bellicose Martial Arts in 2020. The program teaches a mix of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Thai Kickboxing, and Wrestling and became a respected competition MMA and BJJ team under the guidance of its instructors. Bellicose Martial Arts is dedicated to enhancing both the body and the mind and states that the name “Bellicose,” defined as “demonstrating aggression and willingness to fight,” was chosen to move away from the image of mixed martial artists fighting in a cage and to focus on a more family friendly and holistic martial arts environment. Professor Charles Cherry runs Bellicose Martial Arts and is a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a 2nd degree black belt in Judo, holds a black belt in Kickboxing, and has an extensive Wrestling background. Bowie Mixed Martial Arts was founded by Carlos Catania and Charles Cherry, and under their instruction the team developed into a respected competition MMA and BJJ team. Carlos Catania, the head Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor, received his black belt in BJJ from Sergio Penha, and Charles Cherry obtained his own BJJ black belt from Carlos Catania with the approval of Sergio Penha while instructing at Bowie Mixed Martial Arts. As part of its move and evolution, Bellicose joined the Evolution Fight Team headed by 5th degree BJJ black belt Carlos David Oliveira. Professor Charles strives to create a family oriented environment of fun, fitness, and self-defense, and the program thanks families for their years of support and looks forward to continuing to serve the communities of Bowie and Crofton.
