About

Club Lab Rascals Virtual STEM Camp offers fully interactive online labs where kids complete hands-on projects using household items. Activities include creating rain clouds out of household items and building a balloon rocket, with lab leaders providing structure and guidance while children are encouraged to complete projects in their own way.

• Ages: 3–11 years old

In this virtual STEM camp, classes are called labs instead of traditional classrooms or sessions, and kids are fully engaged, ask questions, and help throughout the lab. Each lab begins with an objective and a theme of the day, such as weather, biology, or aviation. Some labs use household items, including activities like creating rain clouds out of household items. Club Lab Rascals also offers afterschool STEM club meetings for kids all throughout Maryland, and virtual STEM camps are hosted every month so kids can participate from anywhere in the world.

Lab Rascals Founder Tondalaya (Tee) Takapu is an 18-year U.S. Airforce veteran and Cybersecurity Analyst. In 2019, Club Lab Rascals met for the very first time in Tee’s kitchen. Tee set out to close the opportunity gap and demystify and diversify the field of STEM by creating an approachable, affordable, and accessible space for all children to get excited about learning, so that children like her own sons would diversify the next generation of STEM professionals. The program offers a community where kids of color are surrounded with other young scholars like themselves.

Tee is described as “a pillar in our community developing next-generation INVENTORS in a safe a kid-friendly space.” One parent shared, “My son is very excited...says he wants to go back every day! Thank you for all your work!” Another parent said, “Thank you for blessing our little souls with your expertise, creativity, and organic love to pass the torch in STEM. You are a pillar in our community developing next-generation INVENTORS in a safe a kid-friendly space! I’m so glad my son gets to be a part of this. Thank you for this investment in his future.”
