Boys & Girls Club of Washington County Programs

Boys & Girls Club of Washington County Youth Programs offer life-enhancing programs and character development experiences for kids and teens. Club programs teach life skills and conflict resolution, and they are tailored to the local community and customized for each age group to meet the interests and developmental needs of young people ages 6–18. The organization focuses on keeping kids engaged, active and happy in the hours after school, during vacation periods and throughout the summer months through a variety of tested, proven and nationally recognized programs that aim to empower kids and teens to excel in school, become good citizens and lead healthy, productive lives.

Programs are led by professional and caring staff, and Boys & Girls Clubs are staffed by passionate youth development professionals who serve as caring mentors and program facilitators. The organization serves more than 1,000 youth across 4 locations in Washington County. Research cited by the organization notes that during periods of idleness and boredom, kids are vulnerable to peer pressure, violence and other risky activities, with higher risks for children from disadvantaged circumstances, and the organization minimizes these risks by engaging young people in activities with positive adult role models and peers so they can learn life skills. Police reports cited by the organization indicate that juvenile crime drops as much as 64% when a new Club opens, and 60% of Club members see increased performance in the Maryland State Testing Program.
