Deaf Camps, Inc. runs camps for deaf children ages 7 to 19 and ASL camps for hearing children ages 8 to 18, who learn ASL through lessons and shared activities with deaf peers. Young Adult Deaf Camp is especially designed for developmentally-delayed Deaf adults ages 18 and up and features fun field trips and camping activities in a communication-rich ASL environment. Deaf Camps, Inc. has been providing camp experiences for deaf children in an American Sign Language environment for over 20 years and was founded by Reverend (now Bishop) Peggy Johnson. Deaf Camps, Inc. is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose board members, directors, and counselors are all volunteers, and all contributions go toward camp operations and camper scholarships. The organization states that it is inclusive and does not discriminate based on race, culture, language, communication method, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or hearing status in any of its programs or activities. Deaf Camps, Inc. offers T-shirts to support its scholarship fund and also offers custom, handmade dolls with options including skin, hair, facial features, cochlear implants, and hearing aids, with one hundred percent of the sale after costs going to Deaf Camps, Inc. Deaf Camps, Inc. notes thanks to sponsors and supporters for multiple recent years of Deaf and ASL Camps. Returning campers say, “Deaf Camp is the best week of their summer!”
