Summer Activity Camps take place at The Gardens Ice House and are part of a larger set of offerings that also include the Learn-To-Skate USA program, learn to play ice hockey, adult hockey, public sessions, Pickup/Stick & Puck, work sessions, pond skating, and curling. The camps run in a facility that has five rinks, including an Olympic size rink, two NHL size rinks, the Logsdon Pavilion with retractable walls for pond-style skating, Whitey's Pond outdoor seasonal rink, and The Ice Den year-round training rink. Summer Activity Camps operate in the same venue that also includes private rooms, an independent full gym called Wellness for Life, a pro shop called East Coast Hockey Supply, a café called Ice Breakers Café, and the National Capitol Curling Center, which is operated by the Potomac Curling Club from September through April.
The Gardens Ice House opened in 1996, and the National Capitol Curling Center opened in 2002. The Learn-To-Skate USA program connected to this facility is directed by Skating Director Greg Maddalone. Front Desk Administration is handled by Nikki Goldschmitt, who has a Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University with a major in Sports Management and minors in Business Administration and Art. The leadership team for the facility includes Founder and President Clai Carr; CRA General Manager and Vice President Marketing Director Billy Carr; CFO Frances Tana; CIRM Manager of Operations Jon Tippets; General Manager and Co-Founder (Retired) Tom Hendrix; Administrative Manager/Learn to Play Hockey Administrator Irene Hudson; Supervisors Steve McAbee and Fabian Carrillo; and Skating Director Greg Maddalone.
The Gardens Ice House states the mission, “We want your visit to The Gardens Ice House to be the Highlight of your Day. Every guest. Every Colleague. Every Day.” The facility is home to five youth hockey programs, several youth leagues, numerous high school teams, the Maryland Scholastic High School Championship, and the Gardens Figure Skating Club. The USA Hockey–sanctioned Adult League at this facility is the 8th largest adult league in the country.
