Middle River Baptist Church Child Development Center is a family and community outreach ministry of Middle River Baptist Church. As a ministry of the church, its mission, purpose, and decisions are guided by the Baptist Faith and Message of 2000 and the church’s mission to be a place where everyday people are changed into joyful followers of Jesus Christ for the glory of God. The stated purpose of the ministry is to provide quality loving care and guidance so that each child may reach his or her greatest potential in spiritual, physical, social, emotional, and cognitive areas, and to offer a program of ministry and outreach to enrolled families and the community.
The center’s curriculum is based on research that the first five years of a child’s life are the most crucial for learning and promotes emotional, physical, cognitive, social, language, and spiritual development and learning. It uses the Maryland State Department of Education approved InvestiGator Club curriculum for three- to four-year-olds and four- to five-year-olds, and uses Healthy Beginnings: Supporting Development and Learning from Birth through Three Years of Age to frame and guide instruction for infants and toddlers. Bible stories, music, activities, and character modeling are used to encourage the integration of biblical principles into daily living. Core values include Worship, Proclaiming Christ, Teaching His Word, Living His Love, Actively Ministering to Others, Cooperation/Teamwork, Encouragement, and Prayer. The center encourages family partnerships through ongoing communication, volunteerism, holiday programs, field trips, family outings and events, and conferences.
Middle River Baptist Church envisioned a child care center on its premises in 1992, and Middle River Baptist Church’s Child Development Center opened on May 1, 1995. Throughout its history, it has served over 2,000 families with quality early care and education.
