The Valley School uses a dynamic, play-based curriculum that includes educational games and activities, finger plays, sensory activities, dance, and exercise games. Children also use the Imagination Playground, an indoor and outdoor mobile play system for active, creative play.

The Valley School offers programs for infants through school age children, beginning at 6 weeks and continuing through 13 years of age. Degreed Lead Teachers who have selected early childhood education as their career choice create individualized plans for learning, and Assistant Teachers and Aides help execute lesson plans, maintain supervision, and interact closely with children. Staff members are degreed teachers who receive continuing education and training, and the program uses research-based programs with a Maryland State-approved curriculum that focuses on social-emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development. Classrooms are media free, and the program emphasizes inspiring creativity and imagination through interactive lessons and play-based activities, including the Imagination Playground.
The Valley School operates a Pre-K early childhood education program and serves infants through school age children. The Middletown center has a licensed capacity of 71 children, and the New Market center has a licensed capacity of 155 children. The Middletown center opened in 2014, and the New Market center opened in 2021. The program is fully accredited and holds a Level 5 Maryland EXCELS rating, which is the maximum rating in that system and is awarded to schools that have reached the highest level of quality according to nationally recognized quality and standards.
The Valley School uses the Brightwheel app to manage attendance, billing, enrollment, parent communication, and important notifications such as school closures, and families receive daily picture, video, or message updates from their child’s teacher through Brightwheel. The program’s mission states that it believes every child has a unique way of learning and developing communication and social interaction skills, and that it utilizes a dynamic, play-based curriculum with educational games and activities so children can learn and discover at their own pace and in their own individual way.
