Children's Center for Discovery (CCFD) Summer Camp includes energized field trips, group activities, and discovery areas. Children's Center for Discovery, Inc. has been providing family style childcare in the community for over 25 years and was founded in 1985. The director is Bonnie. The program operates as an infant, toddler and early childhood training center and offers programs for children 6 weeks old to 12 years old, including a Summer Camp for ages 5–12 and a Before and After School program that combines fun, friendship and learning. CCFD is a Maryland Excels Provider.
Children's Center for Discovery uses a Discovery Curriculum designed through the concepts of "Let's Play, Let's Learn, Let's Discover," with group activities and discovery areas as the primary focus of their educational programs. The program states a philosophy of emphasizing the "whole child" and uses a hands-on learning environment that includes a blend of teacher interaction through natural play to encourage language development. Campers are on the go every day of the week, and each week is filled with energized field trips that are selected by campers and staff. Campers are included in decisions about their trips and activities, and group decision making is used so campers can be young leaders and good decision makers. There is a daily group chat to discuss the day and trip and to make campers aware of the event in full, and campers are described as inclusive members of camp with a positive sense of responsibility and accountability. Campers also strive to be a CCFD HERO, which stands for: H - HELP, E - EVERYONE, R - RESPECT, O - OTHERS.
Children's Center for Discovery offers environmentally rich classrooms, an infant/toddler suite, and cozy areas for drop in breastfeeding. The program provides daily communication reports for infants and toddlers that include meal time, nap times, toilet training, and activities. It also offers a Kindergarten Readiness class for students who miss the age requirement (5 by September 1st) of the Maryland State Department of Education. Portfolios contain work sampling, art projects, assessment worksheets, progress reports, photographs, certificates, and teacher notes, and Parent/Teacher conferences are held quarterly. Teachers help ensure good study and homework habits and guide children through homework lessons.
