Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital Sleep-Away Camps
Camp Winona, 23 Camp Mayflather Ln, Mt Solon, MD 22843
About
Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital Sleep-Away Camps offers activities such as sitting around the campfire, paddling a canoe, shooting a bow and arrow, climbing a natural rock wall, swimming, arts and crafts, archery, climbing tower, teambuilding, and games. Campers may also make friendship bracelets, go on a morning hike, cool down by the pool, and take part in target sports, hiking, backpacking, natural rock climbing, caving, canoeing, and rafting. An example day schedule includes a morning flag ceremony and meals in the dining hall, time with the camper’s unit, an afternoon siesta, and evening reflection around a campfire, with the note that daily schedules vary based on camp and program.
• Schedule: Programs range from two-night minicamps to one-week sessions, with a two-week Counselor-in-Training (CIT) first program.
• Price: There is a $25 registration deposit, and the full camp fee minus the deposit must be paid online by credit card on or before May 1, 2026; if registering after that date, full payment is due at the time of registration, and the $25 registration deposit is non-refundable.
Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital states that it strives to make camp available to all campers regardless of their family’s economic situation. Scholarships are available, offering up to 100% in scholarships for all campers. Teen leadership programs for grades 9 and above include Counselor-in-Training (CIT), CIT II, and a Junior Counselor (JC) program, with a separate lottery for Counselor-in-Training programs. The Early Camper Placement Process is open for submissions December 15–January 5, placements are emailed out on January 12, and general registration opens January 20. Parent information sessions and webinars cover camp logistics and preparation, and Webinar 3 covers packing for camp, getting to camp, what to expect on the first day, what a typical day looks like, what the camp food is like, and where campers will be sleeping. In-person open houses are held at each camp over winter and early spring. At Camp May Flather, campers unplug and spend time in the scenic George Washington National Forest while taking part in high adventure, and all campers there participate in swimming, arts and crafts, archery, climbing tower, teambuilding, and games.
