About
Lions Camp Merrick offers activities such as swimming, fishing, archery, arts and crafts, and nature walks. The program includes fully accessible facilities, with activities and spaces that can be adapted to meet each child’s specific needs, abilities, and interests.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Price: Our camp is made possible through the support of the Lions Clubs and other generous donors, allowing services to be provided at no cost to families.
The mission of Lions Camp Merrick is to empower children, teens, and adults living with deafness, blindness, diabetes, or post-traumatic stress disorder through specialized programs that focus on creative expression, education, and positive social interaction. The facilities include accessible cabins, bathrooms, and dining areas, along with a dedicated medical staff on-site to provide necessary medical care and support. The staff members are described as experienced and trained, and they adapt all activities to each child’s unique needs, abilities, and interests.
Lions Camp Merrick is part of the Lions Clubs International network, which is a global service organization that supports the camp along with other donors. One camper, Grace Hatch, shared that camp has provided a safe place to be herself, learn, and embrace Type 1 diabetes, and that for one week each year she is in a world where Type 1 diabetes is understood and normal.
