About
MSB Summer Programs include outdoor adventure, teamwork, and sports and active recreation, along with daily independent living skills instruction. Participants take part in hands-on tech learning, including learning foundational screen reader skills and tech skill-building for dual-media learners, with individualized planning and skill mapping. Some sessions include real-world work experience through Independent Living & Work Experience (MISLE).
• Ages: 10–18 years old
• Schedule: Sessions run on specific dates between June 28 and July 30, with options ranging from short 2–3 day camps to a 4-week Independent Living & Work Experience (MISLE) program that runs Monday–Thursday with students home on weekends.

Since 1853, The Maryland School for the Blind (MSB) has been a leader in education for students who are blind or have low vision and serves students with blindness or low vision of all abilities from birth through 21 throughout their educational journey. MSB offers personalized education and specialized services tailored to each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), including Occupational Therapy, Orientation and Mobility training, Physical Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Assistive Technology, and Transition Services. Community partnerships for MSB Summer Programs include the YMCA, a Southern Maryland Day Program at Calvert Public Library, and additional MSB Outreach & Regional Programs, and MSB serves students identified as blind and low vision in all 24 Maryland jurisdictions, with more than 1,400 students served yearly in state and out of state. The programs use assistive tools such as braille note takers, screen readers, magnifiers, and 3D-printed materials, and include adaptive physical activities such as blind sports. Some students participate in a career education program where they run The Rock and Roll Café, Busy Bee Studio, and the official MSB School Store.
