• Ages: 5–13 years old
Cheryl King serves as the experienced director and completed her Master of Arts in Teaching degree at Johns Hopkins University with a 4.0 GPA, has taught as a certified teacher, and worked for 7 years at the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University. All counselors have teaching, education and/or camp experience, and all staff are criminal-background checked through the FBI, are fingerprinted, and are first-aid and CPR certified. Swim lessons are overseen by Water Safety Instructors. The camp often far exceeds the 1:10 camper/staff ratio required.
The program is a camp for children entering grades 1–8 that mixes old-fashioned, outdoor fun with learning through new experiences and new friends, with campers grouped by grade or age for most activities. Valleybrook’s 20 secluded acres is the setting for the camp, with two air-conditioned buildings for indoor activities on hot or rainy days and “The Loft,” a renovated barn, as a favorite among campers. The camp offers convenient online registration, strives for authenticity, and states that it values and is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion for employees and customers.
The camp’s mission states that the staff care about and thoroughly enjoy kids, and that the goal is for every child to have fun, be creative, achieve new skills, and develop new friendships in a safe environment, with memories that will last a lifetime. The program notes “Thank you for 22 Incredible Summers!” as part of its history.
One parent shared that their son attended It’s All Fun & Games Camp not knowing anyone, enjoyed tennis, swim lessons plus free swim time, hiking and crafts, and often wanted to be dropped off earlier to have extra morning time with new friends. Another parent reported that three very different children all loved the camp, mentioning gaga, swimming, and finding frogs in the creek as their favorite activities, and described it as good, old-fashioned fun in a safe, nurturing environment. A third parent stated that their daughter had attended three other camps in the area and said this is the only one she wants to attend from now on.
