Weekly specials include options such as Sports & Rec, a Yoga Workshop, Bounce House Combo, Slip N Slide & Water Play, a T-Rex Slide, Scales and Tails, a reptile relay race, water tag, inflatable slip n’ slides, and giant sprinkler action. Campers can choose which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long. Long camp hours, meals, and snacks are included, with no additional fees for camp hours, snacks, lunch, or activities. Families receive automatic full refunds for unused purchased Day Passes at the end of the camp season, and Summer Pass refunds are provided if not enough days are used to justify the cost. Summer day camps are for kids aged 4–12 who are fully toilet trained, able to speak up for their needs, and able to get through the camp day without a nap.
Steve & Kate’s Camp has been operating since 1980. The Potomac camp’s director is Kerry. The camp’s mission states that during summer, it gives kids freedom to expand and evolve by letting campers choose their activities, companions, and how long they participate, and describes this experience as both pure joy for kids and a kind of training ground for life where they are empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions. Additional state-required paperwork must be submitted for every child before their first day of camp, and a virtual camp orientation is emailed to registered families with local drop-off and pick-up procedures, what to bring and not bring, and other details. For Slip N Slide & Water Play and the T-Rex Slide, campers should bring a swimsuit, towel, and water shoes or sandals, and for some Slip N Slide & Water Play days, a labeled swimsuit, towel, and water shoes or sandals are requested.
St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, where the camp takes place, is ADA-accessible. The camp notes that St. Andrew’s Episcopal School enrollment information can be found by visiting https://www.saes.org/. Testimonials describe children at Steve & Kate’s as blossoming and discovering a freedom of identity, and say that if kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve & Kate’s Camp. Other testimonials state that many children of people working at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic attend, and that the camp blends a traditional camp experience with a modern, tech-savvy touch, with a laid-back aura and Silicon Valley-inspired approaches to programming and payment. Another testimonial says that working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.
