Founded in 1858, the YMCA of Frederick County operates as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides programs and services to more than 230,000 people every year. The YMCA of Frederick County states that its purpose is to strengthen and enrich the development of individuals and families through quality programs and services that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, guided by the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The organization is a non-profit that works collaboratively with community partners and several community organizations to improve the lives of children, adults, families, and the entire community, and offers financial assistance through its financial assistance program. The camps state that every child is welcomed into a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment, that equity and inclusion are priorities, and that every child belongs.
The program notes that trained counselors build lasting relationships and guide campers through meaningful experiences, and that campers gain confidence by developing new abilities in areas such as swimming, arts, STEM, and leadership. Through group activities, games, and reflection, campers practice teamwork, empathy, and decision-making. Y members always save more on camp and get priority registration.
Families are asked not to send campers with valuables, and campers are prohibited from using electronics during before and after care and camp hours. The YMCA states it is not liable for lost, damaged, or stolen items and specifically asks that Pokémon cards be left at home.
Parent testimonials about the YMCA of Frederick County mention safe, clean, and socially distanced facilities, aquatics procedures that include a reservation system and limiting locker room use to swimmers, frequent sanitizing of equipment, and helpful and patient front desk staff.
