About

Youth Programs at Historic St. Mary's City take place within an outdoor museum of history and archaeology that includes St. Mary’s Fort, the Woodland Indian Hamlet exhibit, the St. John’s Site Museum, and nature trails. The programs are part of a broader setting that features living history, a museum of archaeology, family programs, homeschool programs, and a field school program. Outdoor exhibits connected to these programs are closed for the winter and scheduled to re-open in March 2026.

• Schedule: Historic St. Mary's City is open Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until November; the St. John's Site Museum is open Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from January 23 to March 17.

Historic St. Mary’s City describes itself as one of the premier historic sites in America, a museum of living history and archaeology telling diverse stories on the site of Maryland’s first capital in tidewater Southern Maryland.
